Food, Drinks and Fun

Almost two weeks have past since the last post in this blog. In the meantime university has started and I have found another reason why Trondheim was the right choice. We are about 60 students in our semester - 15 of us exchange students from abroad - and my Norwegian fellow students are really nice. I have my own personal "student assistant" - a fellow student from my clinical group who's taking care of me if I have any problems or questions. Lectures are on Monday, Tuesday and Friday; on Wednesday and Thursday we have our clinical courses and PBL (problem based learning) groups. I really get to see and do a lot - I wish we had practical courses like that in Innsbruck! The first two weeks I was in the department for Urology and was expected to perform some prostate examinations, watch cystoscopies and various other examinations and operations (amongst others also a robot-assisted prostatectomy with a robot like this); the next two weeks I shall be in the department for Nephrology.

I haven't been missing out on any social life, though. My flatmate Andreas hosted some parties in our flat and co-organised a some funny games for the first-semester students of maths and physics, in which they had to run around in underwear and find somebody to spank them with a twig, climb trees and imitate wolf howling etc.

My stomach also hasn't been neglected, I have enjoyed many meals together with my friends (home-made pizzas at Robert's, japanese food from Henrik - my other Norwegian flatmate, chili con carne together with my flatmates, big breakfast together with two neighbours, salmon filet with lemon risotto,...) And tomorrow most students from our semester will meet at Hotell St. Olav for an all-you-can-eat buffet where we get 50% off as medical students!

Yesterday I spent the evening and night in town together with my dear neighbour Jenny to visit two heavy metal bars. At first we enjoyed a beer at Fru Lundgreen's and carried on to Café 3B, probably my favourite bar here in Trondheim. There we were pleasantly surprised to see a free concert of a really good band from Namsos called Henrys Playmobile! At this bar they also serve Kilkenny Beer for the same price as the local beer Dahls, so guess what I had to drink... ;)
